Club History
When the Sheldon's Meadows site was being considered for development in the early 1990's, the Local Authority imposed a planning levy on the developers to finance an appropriate leisure facility. At a public meeting it had been established that there was sufficient local interest to establish and maintain a bowls club in preference to a football pitch. Largely due to the determination and enthusiasm of John Clements, a past President and Chairman of the Club, a case was put to Hart District Council and we were successful in getting a grant towards the build of the facility. Additional grants from the National Lottery and the Sports Council got the building of a full size green and clubhouse underway on the current site which was provided by the developers. The initial funding was sufficient to construct the bowling green and the outer shell of the clubhouse. After much enthusiastic further fund-raising, the interior of the clubhouse was able to be fitted out and decorated, almost entirely by the early club members, under the expert supervision of Vic Girle, a master builder.

Thanks to the generous hospitality of other local bowling clubs, we were able to start coaching and friendly matches in 1993, whilst we waited for our new green to settle and the building of the clubhouse to finish. At last, all our hard preparation work was finished, and we were able to repay some of that magnificent hospitality, when we began playing on our own green in the summer of 1994.

The clubhouse had been built with this in mind and so an indoors short-mat bowling section was formed the following winter. This has since provided much well-supported (and very sociable) off-season sport allowing us to meet and bowl as a club all year round.

By 1996, our abilities and confidence had grown to the stage where we were able to fully participate, with some success, in the activities of local leagues and competitions.

Many of the founder and original members are still associated with the Club and watch with pride as it continues to flourish.
